Jemima Burrill in conversation with photographer Taran Wilkhu and senior editor at Wallpaper* magazine Nick Compton

Join our host, curator Jemima Burrill as she gains first hand industry insight on getting creative content published, from photographer Taran Wilkhu and senior editor Nick Compton.

Wilkhu’s imagination has been sparked by Design District ever since he first passed the colourful hoardings surrounding its construction site. Curious to find out more about what was happening on the other side, the photographer was soon involved with the project and commissioned to document the Greenwich Peninsula site from its early stages through to completion.

Wilkhu is known for documenting the built environment, with a sensitivity for the human interactions that take place within those spaces. With a portfolio of projects across the UK and Europe, his work has appeared in publications such as; Elle Decoration, Vogue Living, Dezeen, Wallpaper*, Monocle, The Guardian, ICON, RIBA Journal, Architectural Digest and Milk Decoration (who gave him his first cover in 2018). Wilkhu has also produced two books: Segal Close and Walters Way, and An Opinionated Guide to London Architecture. Wilkhu previously worked in investment banking, before pressing restart on his career in order to develop it in a creatively fulfilling direction. Wilkhu is in a unique position to offer insight and advice to those wanting not only to nourish a creative need to produce content, but also to position it in leading international publications.

Jemima will also be joined by Nick Compton, senior editor at Wallpaper* magazine. Cutting his teeth at The Face and Arena, Compton has worked for numerous magazines and newspapers in the UK and the US. Compton, also an advisor to the Design District, will talk about the weird science of commissioning features, shallow knowledge, why it is good to talk, the protracted ill-health of print journalism, his interest in architecture and much more.
