Sociability and openness are at the heart of Architecture 00’s designs. The roof of one of the buildings features a multi-sports court and event space. Inside, floor to ceiling glazing and open, flexible-use spaces encourage adaptations to meet the changing needs of its inhabitants.
External space is as important as internal space. The upper floors and roof are reached by Escher-like interlocking sets of stairs on the outside of the buildings, with public access at all times.
Architecture 00 was founded in London in 2005, a collaborative studio where social designers, economic geographers, and urban sociologists join architects. The practice received London RIBA Building of the Year award in 2015 for their work on the Foundry flexible workspace in Vauxhall. They created the Wikihouse project: an open source construction system making it possible for anyone to download and ‘print’ customised, low-cost houses.
